¡Adiós Diego!

First of all I have to say why I have not blogged or visited blogs for so long. It's the usual thing really, work, visitors and then a change-over between telecoms and an unwanted situation of no phone and no internet. Although I do not write about football a lot, I love the game and watch just enough not to upset the equilibrium at home, if you see what I mean. It's a fine balancing act.

But I just had to put up this post today. We were in Duesseldorf yesterday and the city was dressed in the German colours with vuvuzelas to go with it. It was an absolute carnival atmosphere, and this was before the game had ended. If you are at all interested you might know by now that a young German team beat Argentina (managed by Diego Maradona) 4-0. Some of the most skillful and best-known footballers in the world were beaten comprehensively by some youngsters.

As we were walking along to our favourite restaurant we walked past another one, and that's when I spotted this sign. I don't know how many customers it attracted, but we were quite a few who took photos of it. How is this for wonderful German humour?

They did play very well.....hope Spain beats them...though they won't based on their performance so far. We'll see on Wed.

Germany played an amazing game. Being somewhat laid up these days I'm watching most of the games. I hope they beat Spain, I'll be cheering. I have a German flag on my car but I'm not driving anywhere yet. I think on Wednesday (game day) I'll get permission to drive again...ciao

An amazing game ... We watched it with a crowd of Argentina supporters ... they grew progressively quiter; by the end we could have heard the vuvuzelas all the way from SA it was that quiet!
Ah well, that's sport!

Freudian slip ... meant to type "progressively quieter" !

I'm now cheering for Germany too, a) because they have played the most attractive football of the teams left and b) I'll be in Berlin when the final is played!

Oreneta - Although I like Spain's style of play very much, I have to go with Germany this time. What a final that would be!

Rositta - They have played wonderful football, they are young and hungry.

Expats Again - I wonder if they serve some sort of paella today?

Bachelor - Great time!

Veronica - The fans have been great in SA, have not heard of any trouble. Will you stay up to watch?

Matthew - And I have just bought an old Merc with German number plates, so I suppose I have no choice!

Veronica - Talking about sports, the Open has just started, and as always the Scottish weather played a part. Rain mostly and then today they had to stop play for an hour because the balls would not lie still when they teed off!

Peter H - The people around here are very proud of their "Mannschaft" and cars are still displaying flags on top and on wing mirrors etcetera.

Zuzana - I bet that sign had another funny message the following day after! Very good-humoured.
