No Time – No Blogging

I am struggling at the moment to find time for blogging and blog reading, so I will just report on the latest on the garden bird front. The other day a Greenfinch had flown straight into our glass patio doors and suffered more than a headache. He was as dead as the famous Monty Python ‘Norwegian Blue’, giving me the opportunity to get a very good close-up of his beautiful colours. If you click on the photo below to enlarge it, you can see the fine detail of the feathers. Quite stunning.

One bird that was very much alive, was this colourful Great Spotted Woodpecker. I first caught sight of him from the kitchen window, wondering what that red was hanging under the grease ball.

Then I hurried round to the patio doors and managed to get this shot before he disappeared. I cannot blame him for getting a bit tired in the old claws!

I love to capture woodpeckers on camera. I used to have one visit a while ago and managed to photo him too, he's not been back in a while (could be to do with the fact I've not filled the feeders in a long time!).

1st Lady - yeah, their loyalty is in direct proportion to the seed supply.

They are both lovely - but sad about the little one flying into the window :(

I can remember seeing my first Robin Redbreast in Germany - we don't have them in Australia, but we grew up with Enid Blyton and English stories that included them.

Lynda - yes, the Robins are like the gardener's friend, they like to hang around, keep you company. Very sweet little bird.

Awww too bad about the little bird. Plate glass windows/doors are such a hazard for them!

Traveller One - Maybe the sunlight was very bright, which makes it possible to look straight through the house and think there is nothing in between. Next step: to put up bird silhouettes?

Poor bird, that is so sad. Lovely feathers though, I hope you gave it a nice burial...ciao
