Where Have All the Birdies Gone? .......

... Gone to hatch and lie upon...

... a new generation!

I wondered why there were so many fewer birds round the feeders. How could I forget? I found the answer when I was doing garden work and spotted this blackbird in the hedge at the bottom of our garden. I had scared them off unintentionally when I trimmed the hedge a couple of weeks ago, but they have obviously returned. In a few weeks time the garden will be hosting the great spectacle of parents trying to feed their young ones. Last year we had at least four big families of various birds flocking around the feeders. Sometimes there were about thirty birds. Big, big show.

Watching birds is fantastic! It is exactly as you say; a true show. My parents used to tell me all about the bird families they used to see each spring, when they still lived i a little house in Sweden.
Unfortunately, my own hedge is not tall enough for any birds to built nests. Furthermore, the multitude of cats in the neighborhood has made sure very few birds built nests anywhere close to the houses.
Lovely shot by the way.;)

Protege - I went through my (mental and some written) notes and came to the conclusion that I have seen over 25 different species in our garden. I just feed them and they duly arrive. We can see them through the glass patio doors from our dining table. Always a pleasure. :-)

I need to know where exactly you live, as I'm confused. I thought you lived in Britain, but then you said Germany? I'm sorry but I'd like to know for sure, especially when I see all your photos. I'm getting envious of those who have spring. As you know we have cool summer, mild summer, hot summer and then mild summer, here in California. Those are our seasons.

GW - I live in Mönchengladbach, Germany, in a big NATO community. I love your description of your seasons! :-)

LadyFi - Lying ever so still, hardly noticeable.
